The Liberty Bell Forum
The Liberty Bell Forum

The Liberty Bell Forum commemorates the efforts of the Pennsylvania Abolitionist Society (PAS). Founded in 1775, PAS is the longest, continuously running civil rights organization in America. This group of activists traces its origins to the events that renamed the State House Bell as the Liberty Bell.

Early in its existence, abolitionists confiscated the bell and transported it to Allentown, PA, declaring that they would return it to Philadelphia when the crack in liberty was fixed and the bell rang true with liberty and justice for all. Since 1839, the bell has been known as the Liberty Bell. As another symbol of liberty, this group represents those who brought attention to the plight of African-American free men.
